Memorial services in New Zealand and Antarctica are underway this morning, to remember those who lost their lives in the Mt Erebus tragedy.
Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe is at the Erebus Memorial Garden at Auckland Airport for the crew memorial.
Six family representatives flown to Scott Base in the hopes of visiting the crash site are also holding a service.
Eric Houghton is one of those on the trip, and says even though they couldn't land on the mountain last night; the opportunity to visit the place where his loved ones died is enough.
Today also marks the first anniversary of the Air New Zealand airbus crash off Perpignan in France, in which five New Zealanders died.
