Mum's the Word

Wed, 07 Oct 2009 2:32p.m.
As MOB, I have decided to give my beautiful daughter the week off to recover her strength and again stand tall and fight the world with love and not hate!

You may laugh but preparing for a wedding is no mean feat! No wonder BTBs start over a year ahead – that allows for doors to slam shut, mouths to fall open, and all the wonderments they envisaged to finally reach the ultimate conclusion of their one day of stardom culminating in the most spectacular day of their lives. (Until – as MOBs the world over know - the happy couple have their first child!)

From a MOB’s perspective I hate to say….. “In my day…….” but (there’s that word again – BUT!) when did everything become so expensive at the mere mention of a wedding? For example if I were to pop into our local bakery for a simple divine cake for my mother’s 80th I would be charged somewhere between $60 and $100. Mention wedding cake and the price triples! Again, were I to sidle into my local florist and ask for a stunning posy for my parent’s wedding ruby wedding anniversary I would pay again about $60. Mention a wedding bouquet and it runs to hundreds of dollars!

Now to the piece de resistance! An outfit befitting a MOB – old enough to know the Beatles songs word for word but young enough to dance the Macarena and salsa with the best of them!

I have searched high and low, well far and wide at any rate! North to Orewa, west to Waitakere City, south to the Bombays and East to India (well it felt like I travelled that far to get there!). I have internet searched E Bay in the UK and Australia and of course good old Trade Me in NZ. Actually ordered a stunning dress from China but even though I ordered a larger size it still turned out to be too small!

I am not fussy or pedantic but would like a special outfit that I wouldn’t wear on a summer’s day to the beach or dinner with the family. A lovely hat/fascinator to top it all off doesn’t seem like too much to ask!

Modes is not my taste or price range – again what costs $250 in an “ordinary” shop costs $1250 in Modes! The other criteria, of course, is that I don’t want to look like my mother or my niece!

It seems my only alternative is to have one made especially for me – just little old me – for a mere $1000 (including 2 fittings!)!

Come along New Zealand! Where do I shop for a stunning MOB outfit at a reasonable cost? All submissions welcome and dealt with in strict non confidence! Spread the word……..

I'm getting married to my childhood sweetheart in Feb 2010. We live in our own home in Auckland, along with our 3 adorable, time consuming Meows. I'm creative, opinionated, indecisive, organised, imaginative, a little crazy and not very good at keeping quiet about things that excite me... so this is going to be my perfect playground!
