It's the most high-tech Mars rover ever, and has cost US$2.5 billion to build.
Now, after a successful landing, Curiosity will spend the next two years exploring the red planet.
Former systems engineer Dr Allan McInnes worked with NASA on the Mars rover programme for two years.
