NZ Bus is making a last-ditch effort to avoid further strike action by drivers next week.
The company is requesting unions meet with them urgently, but says it cannot increase the financial offer voted down by members earlier this week.
“What we will do in an effort to avoid pending strike action, is re-table our offer of a further increase to $20.40, commencing December 2014, through to expiry of agreement in July 2015,” says NZ Bus spokesman Shane McMahon.
NZ Bus is urging union members to cancel planned industrial action for next Monday.
“We would strongly urge the unions to life the notice of strike action today, provide Aucklanders with certainty of service provision moving forward and get back around the table to see if there are any other areas we can work on that may help get us across the line,” Mr McMahon says.
It is hoped an agreement can be reached urgently “to see if there is any way they are willing to assist us in ensuring school children can get to and from school safely on Monday”.
