Around 300 New Zealand First members have gathered in Auckland this weekend for the party's annual conference.
The polls have the party registering at less than one percent but the party has a plan.
The average age in the room today could politely be described as senior but these folk are on a mission to recruit the young.
Far from sticking to their knitting, they are embracing social media.
NZ First member Nigel Alderton he has been “remiss” in not being involved with Facebook.
“I’ve resisted until now but I will have to do it now because my leader has done it.”
So has Winston Peters taken his own advice and got down with the kids online?
“Well if you have a look you'll find us on Facebook,” says Mr Peters.
But when asked if he personally uses the networking website, he replies with “again, I’ll answer your question, if you have a look you'll find it”.
“We're on everything,” Mr Peters says when asked about Twitter. “NZ First is on everything and by the end of the week we'll have NZ First television as well.”
Mr Peters personally is not on Twitter but his supporters have set up a page for him, although they have yet to ‘tweet’.
If all that fails to get attention from the under 30s the party has a sweetener. It is proposing matching student loan repayments dollar for dollar for graduates.
“We're losing $6 billion now and we won't get it back so we may as well forgive it and get the reciprocal of working in this country.”
So this weekend NZ First has settled on a strategy to get their message out there and communicate more directly with youth.
