exporting can create several woes for the local community expecially if the exported market is so large. What i dont understnd is, after the babies are off the new zealand formula, they are back on a chinese diet comprising of chinese foods and dairy products. This demand makes no sense, what they are trying to avoid, is inevitable the babies cant drink formula their whole lives.

I feel sorry for your guys in NZ. This has been going on in Hong Kong, the closet place where formula is safe for children to Chinese, people have been protesting and urging the government to do something about it (limiting the number of Chinese travelling to Hong Kong). Please join the Hong Kongers and tell your government that Chinese need to be banned from going to your country. Otherwise, soon they're start selling contaminated products (already happening in Hong Kong!) in your country. Good luck!

China's one child policy and the high risk of contamination in China of anything manufactured means Chinese parents will pay any price for NZ milk powder. WMP (Whole Milk Powder) and SMP (Skim Milk Powder, butter and cheese is the primary NZ export product. The demand and export is controlled by an elite group for massive profit. Its regulation is a true example of a corrupt state operating in what it praises is a deregulated market.

If you think there is no shortage, you don't really know what is happening. For half a year now, I have not been able to buy Karicare goat formula, 1, 2 or 3, for my younger son. Karicare goat formular is far more expensive and far better in terms of reducing the chance of developing allergies and the Chinese are after the goat formula in particular. Even if the Chinese have to pay double the price to get the goat products, they are still happy to pay. When I asked the supermarket staff, they told me the supplier had stopped providing them with goat formula. And here's the mystery. If Nutricia doesn't export the goat formula, why is there a sudden stop in supply? Where have all the products gone?

Went to the local pak-n-sav and saw they had a pallet with this product on it, over 300 tins plus the usual space and who know how much out-back?

There is no shortage. If you don't find it on your supermarkets shelf and want it, dont get racist - just ask you supermarket to get more in.

Clearly the issue here is that New Zealand is underselling these products in China and need to be more proactive with our marketing strategies to manage market demand more effectively and also to cut out these third party resellers who have the potential to damage the products brand.

Very one sided views and complaints as we live in a global village/market and you can't have it both ways with cheap plentiful NZ formula and cheap 'Made in China' goods on the Red Sheds shelves.

yes all mother's need to feed their children and need to be sure that what their children are getting is healthy and good for them, Product destined for the NZ market should not be being sent overseas to a different much larger market. The Chinese who are doing this are saying that their children have to eat, well so do ours! If they have a problem with the products being produced for their market they should rise up and demand better not penalise a country that they are guests in. Aside from which they would probably do well to increase their breast feeding rate, Surely the safest most complete and healthiest food for a baby is breast milk? If they don't trust the products on their shelves perhaps they should put their trust in nature.
