I have experience of cyclists riding two abreast taking up almost the whole of the lane; others weaving in and out of traffice pedalling like the cappers, driving through red lights, etc. Not to mention cycling at speed around walkways where at least woman here in Hamilton was killed. Many cyclists do not follow the road code. New Zealand roads are far too narrow for bikes and cars so I am not surprised at the rate of deaths increasing. Drivers are bad enough but I have to say many cyclists I see take too many risks.

The thing about having a tonne and a half of metal wrapped round you is that it allows you to be invulnerable to pedestrians and cyclists. It's a sad indictment of New Zealand culture that many people think death is an appropriate punishment for squirting water at a car. A car is a deadly weapon. People that use them with intent should be tried and sentenced for attempted murder.
