An ecstatic crowd met Green Party co-leaders’ Russel Norman and Metiria Turei as they celebrated a historic 10 percent of the vote.

“Isn’t it a great night to be a green,” said Mr Norman.

It’s the first time in New Zealand’s history that the Green Party has exceeded 10 percent of the party vote.

“This is a historic night for the Green Party, a historic night for New Zealand, and a historic night for the Green movement in Aotearoa and around the planet.”

Mr Norman says they set a target of 10 percent of the vote and are overjoyed to exceed it.

In a record setting night, it is also the first time since the 1996 MMP election that a third party has got over 10 percent of the party vote.
