The Transport Agency has released its preferred route for a new motorway shortening the journey between Auckland and Whangarei.
The agency says its new route is similar to the indicative route announced last year, but some alterations have been made as a result of community and stakeholder feedback.
The agency wants to construct a $760 million four-lane motorway from Puhoi to Warkworth, a notorious black-spot highway that delays traffic every summer.
It has also claimed many lives.
The agency says about 50 properties will be affected - 10 fewer than its previous preferred route.
