NZ's biggest bartender competition kicks off

3News NZ

The New Zealand Beam Bar Legend competition has officially begun.

Bartenders from across the country submitted their entry online to compete in the competition, with the winner be crowned New Zealand’s Beam Bar Legend, winning a prize pack valued at over $25,000.

Over the coming days, Beam will select 200 bartenders to go through to the next round where they will be asked to complete an online bar exam.

Bartenders will be asked to answer 45 questions that will not only test their general bar skills, but will also test their etiquette and portfolio knowledge.

“The thing that sets a great bartender apart is their charisma and ability to create a fantastic atmosphere in their workplace, not just who can make the best cocktail. We are looking forward to finding the person who has the whole package,” says Beam marketing director Rene Bros.

“We are overwhelmed at the amount of entries we have received over the past few weeks and it will be an interesting next few days for us,” he says.
The 200 bartenders have until Friday 24th August to complete the exam with the top 30 scores advancing to the next stage.

Semi-finalists will be contacted on August 30, with competition semi-finals held in September in three different regions.

The selected eight finalists will then be invited to participate in the grand final to be held in Auckland in early October.
