Narine destroys NZ one-day hopes

Sunil Narine's bamboozling spin continued to confound the Black Caps as they stumbled to a 20-run loss to the West Indies in the fifth and final one-day international in St Kitts on Tuesday (NZT).
Just as New Zealand were looking a good chance of chasing down the West Indies modest 241, Narine struck late in the innings with three key wickets.
He removed Kane Williamson four balls into the 46th over, caught on 69 at midwicket by Chris Gayle with a superb diving catch, leaving New Zealand teetering at 208-7.
The deceptive Narine then clean bowled Andy Ellis and Kyle Mills in rapid succession to complete a five-wicket haul for 27 runs off his 10 overs.
The victory gives the Windies a 4-1 series win, after a somewhat makeshift New Zealand bowling attack stepped up to give the Black Caps a good chance of collecting a consolation win.
Williamson sent down five overs for 36, while opener Rob Nicol conceded 27 runs off his five overs. Daniel Flynn was also called on for two overs, after Trent Boult's thigh strain restricted him to eight overs.
Pace bowler Mills set the Black Caps up in the fifth over, removing the dangerous Gayle for five after he cut a short, wide delivery to Nicol at point.
Mills' nagging line and length garnered him a useful 3-40 off his 10 overs after some fiery early bowling from Tim Southee built on the promising start.
Southee finished with 3-37 after picking up 2-5 in his first three overs, removing Johnson Charles for 15 and Dwayne Smith (9) to leave the Windies 3-37 early in the ninth over.
However, Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Bravo rebuilt the innings with a 60-run stand for the fourth wicket, and Andre Russell again proved troublesome late in the Windies innings, clubbing an unbeaten 59 off 40 balls.
The Black Caps now play a warm-up three-day match against a West Indies selection in Antigua beginning on Friday before the first Test begins on July 26 (NZT).
