The National Party and Maori Party have reached an agreement on the ETS, giving extra forestry rights to several iwi

National and the Maori Party have reached an agreement on the Emissions Trading Scheme, giving extra forestry rights to several iwi.

Prime Minister John Key and Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples have just held a press conference confirming the deal on the ETS.

A Treaty of Waitangi clasue will be inserted into the legislation, but more controversial is the inclusion of a special offer to five iwi including Ngai Tahu.

They will get rights to plant forestry on Crown land and take the carbon credits for sale.

Iwi Leadership Group spokesman Karamea Chris Insley says it is a fair deal.

The Government has been working for Maori Party support to pass its own changes to the ETS – which seeks to limit greenhouse gases.

Mr Insley says while it is hard to be definite, the financial impacts on iwi will be good:

Five iwi including Ngai Tahu will get a special deal in recognition of the value of forestry assets gained under Treaty settlements being devalued.

Judging by the attitudes in this forum, nobody here knows the history of New Zealand. Hence the ignorants. 'Ignorance of ignorance is STUPIDITY.' Go back to school, stupid. What these 5 iwi are getting are peanuts compared to what they and many other iwi deserve. Do some research. How are the Maori Party Elite? Because there MPs? Beneficiaries? No Maori person gets a cent of this money given by the Govt or Treaty negotiations. YOU ARE DELUSIONAL! In your own paranoid world. But I think these people choose to be this way, choose to be ignorant.

Well, I'm considering, before next election, starting a New Zealand European party. Just so that everyone can call me a racist for dedicating a Politicial Party to one ethnicity. Huh. Where'd that idea come from?

And who are we going to vote for next time? Perhaps we should all vote for the Maori party, become members, and ask for the same priviliges. Then, we can all be beneficiaries for life and they will look after us in the same way because we have been mistreated under the Treaty, be made inequal. The Maori Party is the elite, knows best how to treat people equally. Because this continuous open cheque book at present can only exist because we let them pressure us into thinking that we should look after them for life. Best way to achieve that is join them! Or am I being cynical here? One wonders where they will get the trillions which would be needed for that!

Every year, our high school teacher told us the story how cats used to rule the world, until they trained mankind. Now look at the life of the cat. I wonder if we are being trained all over again, because it looks quite a lot like previous contracts not being binding, thus creating the perpetual Treaty as a means to be looked after for eternity, or at least the next 100 years.

This is pathetic. Utterly pathetic. John Key will NOT get elected into power again.

Alle menschen werden Bruder sein - from Ode to Joy - set to music by Ludwig van Beethoven. He was all for equality and peace for all mankind.
Would it not be nice if these famous words by Schiller would once become reality? It is the duty of politicians to create a better world for our children. We need to be very careful here and make sure that nothing boils over, and that we do not lower ourselves to the likes of Hone and his gang. Yes, it is disappointing but may be one day the Maori Party will see that the only way forward is as Bruder (Brothers).

Its simple really, as with the referendum's march and debate.

John Key doesnt give a crap about what New Zealanders think, he has his own agenda.
