National continues to hold a strong lead over Labour in the latest opinion poll.

The Roy Morgan Research survey shows National with 45.5 percent support, down half a point since the last poll a month ago, and Labour on 31 percent, up half a point.

There's little change in support for minor parties.

The poll is in line with other recent surveys which have shown Labour making small gains since David Shearer replaced Phil Goff as leader, but the party is still a long way from being in a position to challenge the Government.

The poll shows confidence in the government - tested with the question of whether New Zealand is heading in the right or wrong direction - has fallen slightly.

Those who think it's heading in the right direction were down four points to 57 percent, those who think it's heading in the wrong direction were up two points to 30 percent.

The poll questioned 915 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 per cent.

They voted in a bunch of idiots Homer that is all. The sad part is we have another 2 1/2 years to watch the country falling to pieces. No wonder people are still leaving here in the dozens.

Pfft, look at what you voted in NZ. What have National done to create employment - Nothing. More business closing everyday and more going on the dole Que. Soon we will be a country of beneficiaries and not much more. Still waiting to see how National plan to fix it, but I doubt there is a plan.
