More than 360 people have already lost their lives on New Zealand roads this year and police say the road toll runs the risk of overtaking last years total.
It comes as police vow to continue cracking down on drink driving with a series of nationwide ‘Stopcheck’ operations throughout the country over the festive period.
Superintendent Paula Rose says officers are committed to being highly visible on the roads this summer in a bid to keep the holiday road toll down.
Superintendent Rose says 366 people died on New Zealand's road in 2008.
