A 74-year-old lady has been banned from Northcote Shopping Centre for blowing raspberries at Mayor Andrew Williams

A 74-year-old lady has been banned from Northcote Shopping Centre for blowing raspberries at Mayor Andrew Williams

Thu, 18 Mar 2010 9:24a.m.

A woman who blew a raspberry at Auckland's North Shore Mayor has been issued a two year trespass notice, banning her from a shopping centre where the incident occurred.

Shirley Squire says she approached Mayor Andrew Williams and called him a "cowardly careerist" before blowing two raspberries in his direction.

Days later, a community constable issued her with the notice prohibiting the 74-year-old from the Northcote Shopping Centre.

Miss Squire says she is appalled and believes the ban is over the top.

“Well I didn’t know, and I’ve asked other people ‘did you know that blowing a raspberry at an elected member is a criminal act?’ No, I didn’t know that,” she says.

Mr Williams is reported to have said Ms Squire was being offensive to many people and supports the trespass notice.

Likewise a friend of mine suggested someone needs to update the mayors wiki to note his extremely thin skin and inability to deal with disgruntled constituants.

A friend of mine had a suggestion: EVERYONE who notices this guy, blow THREE resperries at him.
Also do it to the staff and management at the supermarket that supports him. Do it till they let her back in.
Of course, this would be criminal behaviour (obviously) and I can't condone it myself...

What on earth is this silly country coming too? Maybe all North Shore people should boycott the mall as it's management will have had to agreed to back this 'wet Mayor's' demand for action.

Surprise surprise, Andrew Williams offended by a 74 year old. The poor mayor is too precious, much like a sulking little boy. HE doesn't like the prayer at the beginning of meetings so gets rid of it, HE sends angry messages to John Key in the middle of the night because HE is not happy, and now HE tells on a 74year old woman to the community constable because she made him look like an idiot by expressing her opinion.
To be honest, everyone around the mall would have been pleased to see that rather than offended. I think they are all wondering why they voted him in in the first place....

Far out this is one of the wierdest things I have heard of in a while. Andrew Williams needs to take a chill pill. But I bet it will be hard for him to hear all this with his head stuck so far up his a#*e.

Ignore the ban Shirley. Phone TV3 and have them accompany you to the mall on your next shop. The more the publicity, the more of an idiot the mayor will look.

Its almost funny! Who the hell does he think he is- I think Shirley they have surely broken a law of common sense by banning you. Is this your nearest shopping center where you get your food and essentials daily-This speaks very loudly about the lily livered grandiosity this mayor is. Get a grip NZ, and Andrew Williams-if you cant stand the heat-get out of the kitchen!

What utter rubbish, the real coward here is most certainly Mayor Williams who cannot take the heat under the circumstances. Shame on him and good on Shirley for speaking your mind.
