Former police commissioner passes away

A former police commissioner who was at the forefront of policing during the occupation of Bastion Point and the 1981 Springbok Tour has died.

Bob Walton, the commissioner from 1978 until 1983, passed away peacefully at his home last night.

The current commissioner, Howard Broad, has extended his condolences to Mr Walton's family, who have accepted an invitation for his funeral to be a police service.

Listen to Marcus Lush speaking with Brian Duncan, who began his career with the police in 1959 when Walton was a Detective Sergeant, on RadioLIVE's Breakfast.
