Traffic was the main offender at St Lukes mall

The Boxing Day sales are as predictable as the pre-Christmas rush.

New Zealanders have once again taken to the streets, the malls and the internet in droves – and it wasn't always pretty.

Eve has been here since 6.30am.

“They are selling like $159 things for a dollar!”

At 9am, the doors were opened at Albany’s Westfield mall and so were the purses and wallets. It was a win/win situation.

But as afternoon approached, shopper fatigue set in. Traffic was the main offender at St Lukes mall.

The Christmas spirit was abating.

Too many people each after specific items. New Zealanders were buying online too as other's flogged off gifts they did not want.

But most chose the shops; Wellington was bustling and Hamilton was in gridlock.

We will not know Boxing Day sale records until tomorrow.
