Police in Melbourne have this evening searched the home of missing woman Jill Meagher at the same time new CCTV footage emerged of her.
The Irish ABC staffer failed to return home after a night out last Friday and was reported missing by her husband a short time later. Police have now revealed they have new CCTV footage that shows her whereabouts after leaving Bar Etiquette in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The footage shows Ms Meagher walking north on Sydney Road in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick at 1:41am. Police are now examining the video and would also like to review footage from nearby businesses.
Tonight police returned to the apartment that Ms Meagher shared with her husband Tom to collect more evidence, Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported.
So far several large paper bags and a silver suitcase have been removed from the apartment.
Homicide squad detectives who carried out the search said earlier the search was part of a routine investigation.
Police say their investigation is currently focusing on the missing woman's handbag, which was found yesterday on a bench in Brunswick.
The handbag was spotted in plain sight by a pedestrian, in an area already been searched by police, leading authorities to suspect that the bag was planted by someone involved in Ms Meagher's disappearance.
"There's two options, either police in the original search missed the bag or the bag has since been placed at that laneway after the police searched it originally," Det Insp John Potter told ABC 774, where Ms Meagher worked.
"You've got to ask which is true."
The bag contained her credit card but was missing her phone.
Police say Ms Meagher is 165cm tall, of a slim build and has long curly black hair and brown eyes.
She was last seen wearing a blue dress, black jacket, black patterned stockings and high heels.
About 60 people also have contacted Australia's Crime Stoppers with potential information.
