KFC launched their new chicken pie today and so far the verdict is good.

The pie, which launched in KFC stores around the country at 10am, is made of chicken, potato and gravy and costs $4.50.

Dale French, Tristan Comley and Ashley Zaragoza took their lunch break at KFC today to try the pie, and the verdict was unanimous: they liked it.

“Heaven in my mouth pretty much, it’s amazing,” Mr Zaragoza says, adding that it reminds him of Georgie Pie.

“It sort of reminds me of my childhood like Georgie Pie when I had my seventh birthday there.”

Mr French analysed the flavour.

“It’s sweet, got a sweet flavour to it. The spices on top make it taste awesome.”

He says he could taste potatoes, onions and gravy.

The trio say they had been talking about the pie coming out all week, so made sure they came to get one on the first day.

They found KFC to be quite busy, the line was not quite out the door, but there was about a 10 minute wait.

Mr Zaragoza thought he would be back for another pie soon.

“Probably for dinner.”

A KFC spokeswoman says the pies have been so popular today that they are getting low at some stores in Auckland and elsewhere.

“They’re extremely popular, so much so supplies are getting low,” she says.

“We’ll definitely be upping the production run.”

I have always enjoyed the kfc pot pie-until now. I am eating one from the GA Hwy 85 location in Riverdale, Ga & there is absolutely no chicken! I am highly disappointed & upset!

I actually thought it was pretty good, I read the negative reviews before I tried it so was expecting bland and was surprised. It was a really good chicken pie in my opinion.

Just had one of these and it was nearly hollow in side. I counted 4 small squares of recognisable chicken and dried up gravy. Pastry hard on top and greasy underneath. This was in Napier. maybe it was a couple of days old !

The pie isn't anything special. You get the same thing at any bakery that sells chicken pies for cheaper. The taste doesn't remind you of KFC at all. Everyone I know that tried it was extremely disappointed by the pie and won't be going for seconds. It sounds like this article is extremely biased. The reason it was very popular was because people are going to try it on the first day, that doesn't mean they're going to buy it again.

This is rubbish, take a look at the KFC Facebook page - everyone is complaining about how bland this pie is. I had one, it was completely tasteless. KFC should stick to what they are good at - chicken. And bring back the double down.

I really wouldnt recommend getting too excited about the KFC pie, i had one today and it was possibly the worst pie i have tasted. The pastry is tough and greasy and the filling is bland, watery and minimal. KFC should stick with serving fried chicken because they certainly missed the mark with this pie!! My advice, go to your local bakery if you want a pie and you'll be pleased that you didnt waste your money on one of these.
