Josh Duhamel in New Year's Eve

Josh Duhamel in New Year's Eve

By Kate Rodger

It's a time-honoured Hollywood holiday tradition - sign up a tonne of stars for a ‘heart warming’ collection of interconnected love stories set against the backdrop of a big occasion.

Any big occasion will do: Valentines Day, Xmas or New Year's Eve.

Target the kids with Zac Efron and that annoying girl from Glee, throw in some Ashton Kutcher and Abigail Breslin and keep the grown-ups happy with Oscar heavyweights clocking in for an easy Xmas bonus - Robert De Niro on his deathbed, and Hilary Swank being Hilary Swank.

Chuck them all into New York City on New Year's Eve, and watch it rake in millions of holiday box office moolah.

There are two things a romantic comedy obviously must have; romance and comedy. New Year’s Eve has neither.

Heavily ladeled cliche and lame, implausible, inane storylines complete with some excruciatingly cringe worthy montages make this the biggest Christmas turkey in recent memory.

One star - and that was just for the bloopers during the closing credits.
