A New York music festival set to feature indie rockers Vampire Weekend and Bright Eyes has been cancelled.

The MTK: Music To Know event on Long Island was due to be held on 13 and 14 August but it's been scrapped due to poor ticket sales.

A statement from organisers reads, "Despite our unique vision and arranging a world-class lineup, ticket sales were not adequate to allow the event to continue."

Former child stars-turned-fashion moguls Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had also signed up to run a pop-up boutique on site.
