A new award has been announced for women in the dairy industry, with a $25,000 scholarship on offer.

The ‘Dairy Woman of the Year’ award will be an annual prize, offered by the Dairy Women’s Network in conjunction with Fonterra.

The competition aims to “profile and celebrate women who are making a real difference in the dairy industry”, Dairy Women’s Network CEO Sarah Speight says.

The winner will gain a scholarship for the 12 month Women in Leadership course run by Global Women, worth $25,000.

Ms Speight says the award is “not just about recognising one woman out of the thousands who are doing great things”, but also aims to encourage more involvement from women in the dairy community.

“It is our hope that the award encourages many more [women] to… make a difference in our industry, while also making a positive impact on-farm and in the lives of people in their rural communities,” she says.

The winning nominee must have made a significant contribution to the dairy industry, influenced the dairy community, promoted the industry in a positive way, and been a positive role model for women.

Nominations close on February 24. For more information and nomination forms, visit the website.
