The London Olympics are six months away, but Valerie Adams already has her game face on.
Under the watchful eye of coach Jean Pierre Egger, Adams is confident she is on the right track to defend her title.
“Technically, physically, dynamically, emotionally, I’m just so much in a better place,” Adams says.
And she has high praise for her new coach.
“He’s just so professional. He has an eye for the event, an eye for throwing, and a feel for throwing. I can’t thank him enough, he’s the bomb.”
2011 was Adams first year under Egger. The Swiss coach has helped her secure her third world title with a personal best.
That helped Adams put a disappointing 2010 behind her, but there is one thing she lost that year which she would dearly love to take back: Her world indoor title.
“[Belarusian] Nadezhda Ostapchuk’s got it now, but you know 2012 is a whole new year, whole new competition. So my goal is to go out there and win it back.”
Once that's accomplished, Adams will turn her attention to London.
As will Egger, who's hoping to complete his set of Olympic medals, after coaching the French basketball team to silver in Sydney, and shotputter Werner Gunter to bronze in 1988.
