The mysterious disappearance of former Kiwi businessman Herman Rockefeller has taken a stunning twist.

Police are questioning two people after raiding a Melbourne home overnight, and say they have grave fears for the millionaire.

The house is less than 15 minutes' drive from Melbourne Airport, where Mr Rockefeller was last seen over a week ago.

Police now fear he may be a victim of foul play.

Around 6:30pm last night police raided the Hadfield home, examining every inch of it. Taken away for questioning were two people – a 57-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman. It was a dramatic development in the hunt for the missing man, and police are now fearing the worst.

Mr Rockefeller was said to be in good spirits when he left Melbourne Airport at around 9:30pm last Thursday. Though he had told his family he would be home shortly, he never arrived.

The occupants of the property are now in custody, but so far have not been charged.

Mr Rockefeller’s family are said to be devastated.

A close friend of Mr Rockefeller, Aucklander Jim Watson, used to be his business partner in the 1990s. They had breakfast together in New Zealand last year, and Mr Watson insists his friend was loving life.

He is adamant Mr Rockefeller had no secret life.

The focus is now on the Hadfield couple in custody. A neighbour said they were very normal and kept to themselves. Another described them as unusual and said the husband could be violent.

At this stage, no one is saying what their link is to Mr Rockefeller.
