While celebs seem to loathe them, the reality is the paparazzi's candid snaps sell millions of magazines.

Now a Sundance prize-winning documentary on the world's best known and most controversial paparazzo, Ron Galella, is screening in New Zealand at the World Cinema Showcase.

Galella is considered the godfather of paparazzi and the documentary Smash His Camera examines his tricks, how Marlon Brando slugged him and how Jackie Kennedy sued him.

Norrie Montgomery is New Zealand's answer to Galella.

Kiwi paparazzo, Norrie Montgomery, has seen the new doco and is a big fan of Galella's work.

"He's amazing that guy, he's just stunning," Montgomery says. "Stunning work as well. I mean for a paparazzi some of those images he saw in that, they were just beautiful images."

So next time you peek at candid celebrity pics, think of Montgomery and Galella - they're the snappers who bring you your guilty pleasure.
