I have been walking two of these dogs living stating at the Palmerston North SPCA named Snoopy and Bagel. They now play and run and return when called... Mostly (o: they need and would live a nice home. They do still cower at noises and sudden movements etx but are so friendly it is a wonder to their breed. Please go and meet them and fall in live and give these dogs a life they never had

The heroes here are the adopter's. All courage to you folk. Every one of you. Albeit a small slice of what is broken around dog policy and the only animal that watches us... such endeavors signal to all the mutual value and social capital of dog'dom in our community. It is no easy feat and certainly at some risk of failure to adopt a dog that has not had the rich environmental stimuli of the day to day discourse of living in a family setting. As a behaviourist I can say these dogs couldn't get luckier than to get such a second chance from folk prepared to put in the time and commitment. All heroes, every one of ya.. Thanks John for the update, so very pleased this story has a happy ending. Have wondered how they got on with rehousing the dogs, glad to see it has been successful. Beagles are beautiful dogs, fantastic family members and don't deserve to be treated badly.

OMG My hubby has been wanting a Beagle for a long time. We are on the waiting list for pups but would seriously consider an older dog. We have a dairy farm and own labradors and a spaniel. Have a very well fenced section and have more than enough love and space for another dog. Would love to hear from the people caring for the beagles Regards Alexandra

We have one of the Beagles rescued from the closed vivisection lab and she is the most amazing, beautiful dog ever and a huge part of our family. Thanks to HUHA! To think of her and any other animal being experimented on is unimaginable!

I'm so glad Huha has managed to find loving , forever homes for these gorgeous dogs. I'm still angry that these innocent animals were treated this way in our country and that the people responsible seem to have walked away scott free. That woman should not be allowed to own animals - she is no better than a puppy mill - disgusting !!
