New Labour leader David Shearer will reveal his new-look Labour front bench today.

The Mt Albert MP, who has been in Parliament only two-and-a-half years, has Grant Robertson as his deputy.

Front bench spots are expected for his defeated opponent in the battle for the top job, David Cunliffe, David Parker, Shane Jones and Jacinda Ardern.

Trevor Mallard says he won't be there, opting out to make way for fresh blood.

Former list MP Stuart Nash will likely be appointed Mr Shearer's chief of staff.

Once Parliament is over for Christmas, Mr Shearer plans to tour the country, speaking to supporters to get an idea of how the party can improve on its election night drubbing, where it managed only 27 percent of the vote.

I think for David to make any real changes first he needs to understand that the world has moved on and the old Labour ways just don't cut it any more. For Labour to be a serious 2nd or 3rd party (Greens are now a potentially viable 2nd party) they must embrace success and stop knocking business and other golden egg groups. The masses are no longer fooled. Money for pet projects and the welfare brigade has to come from somewhere. If business and success are not celebrated then there is no cash cow for Labour to milk. Time for Labour to understand how economics work. Bashing those who are successful has made Labour few friends, even amongst the the old 'believers'.
