Auckland mayor Len Brown and Science and Innovation Minister Wayne Mapp have announced the development of a waterfront facility for business incubators and research and development institutions.
Called the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct, Dr Mapp says the project will link entrepreneurs and businesses to investors.
“The Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct will help New Zealand to grow world-class innovative companies," says Dr Mapp. "This is creating the wealth and jobs that we need for our future."
Mr Brown says the precinct will bring innovators and research and development providers together in one place.
“Technology is one of our fastest growing sectors and as it grows it will upskill our population through demand for university and training institute courses," says Mr Brown.
"The precinct will naturally focus on adding value to the high-tech sector, notably ICT, digital content creation and marine technology."
Mr Brown says it will keep talented Kiwis in New Zealand, and attract overseas talent to Auckland.
