A bill which gives the Security Intelligence Service more power to access computers and mobile phones has been passed in Parliament today.

The Security and Intelligence Amendment Bill updates legislation which is over 30 years old.

It extends the SIS's power to access warrants to search new technologies, but opponents of the bill say it will breach human rights.

The Government says extending powers to modern technology is crucial before the Rugby World Cup.
