Cameron Morris
New Zealand's fastest texter has been found, and he's snapped up $10,000 and a trip to New York thanks to his speedy thumbs.
Cameron Morris, 28, pipped second-place getter, 16-year-old Simeon Koioichki by just two messages, to claim the title of New Zealand text champion.
The competition, held in Auckland this weekend, included a series of fun and tricky challenges aimed at testing contestants' skills under pressure.
Hundreds of people of all ages entered, and three of the four finalists were teenagers.
Morris, the oldest finalist, says fast texting is all about practice - but he does any texting reluctantly.
"I don't like text messaging, I think of picking up the phone," says Morris.
But for a man who hates texting, he blew the teenage pretenders off the keypad.
"Really happy, a little embarrassed, becasue it's a funny title," he says.
Morris says being a text champion is one thing, but it's not his greatest achievement. He says that was marrying his wife this year, and now they're looking forward to spending the prize.
