An Auckland Now quiz question asking readers how many pieces Carmen Thomas’ body was cut into after she was killed has been removed.

Auckland Now is a Fairfax Media website.

The question, from the July 23 version of the news website’s daily quiz, was spotted by blogger @dannews.

An editor for Auckland Now tweeted to apologise for the offensive question. 

"I am sorry to say that question did appear in our quiz, it was in poor taste and it's been removed. Ed." 

Ms Thomas went missing in July 2010, and police sparked an extensive search for her.

Her remains were found buried in plastic containers the Waitakere Ranges last October, after her former partner Brad Callaghan was charged with her murder one month prior to the discovery.

This story was amended at 2:28pm on July 27 as it originally stated the quiz was hosted on the Stuff website. The quiz was actually hosted on Auckland Now - a Fairfax Media site .
