Angelina Jolie has been named the world's most powerful celebrity, but now Jolie wants to be the world's most powerful person.

According to Britain's Daily Express, Jolie is bored with Hollywood and is so stirred by the humanitarian work she has been doing for the United Nations, she has set her sites on Washington.

3 News Hollywood correspondent Nelson Aspen says Jolie’s new direction is the talk of the town.

“The rumours are starting to escalate now to the point where she's talking about maybe cutting back on her work load, as far as movies go and not just focussing on mother hood, but her political activism as well.”

The newspaper quotes a friend saying Jolie, "(she) is passionate about people's rights, war and justice and thinks she can get more hands-on and make even more of a difference by getting into politics."

The actor factor has worked before - just look at Ronald Reagan.

Jolie's personal role model is himself a white house first - the first African American President.

Jolie apparently admires President Barack Obama, and thinks she could make a big difference too if she were in his position.

Jolie certainly talks the political talk- earlier this week, when Jolie was on CNN, she was talking about one of America's serious political challenges. Pakistan.

Political scientist Stephen Levine says the story may have been leaked by a friend to gage public reaction, and Jolie for president is not unrealistic.

3 News spoke with a representative from the US Embassy, who would have to deal directly with Jolie should she become president. According to the embassy the candidate must have been born in the US, resided there for the past 14 years and be at least 35-years-old.

Jolie is only 34, but come the next election, she will have met all those criteria.
