Mark Wahlberg wanted to get back to the bullets. The Boogie Nights actor stars in the upcoming movie adaptation of the Max Payne video game.
At Comic-Con in San Diego, he told AP Television it was a welcome shift.
"After doing The Happening, and doing Lovely Bones, which is Peter Jackson's next movie, I really wanted to do something where I could get back to being aggressive," Wahlberg told AP Television. "And you know, have something that was just very satisfying of my guy mentality. And so this really served my purpose."
Wahlberg said he isn't into video games, but enjoyed the story, which revolves around a vigilante character whose family has been killed.
"It was so good to see, when I finally went into the editing room, I was doing some voiceover work on Max Payne. I saw it and I let out this big yelp," Wahlberg said.
"It was good to be back. Because this is the kind of movie I would run out to see. I don't want to be pigeonholed into one kind of style of movie or genre. I really want to be able to try different things and surprise people. But the kind of movies that I watch are definitely guys' movies."
His co-star in Max Payne Mila Kunis said she felt right at home promoting the film at Comic-Con. "I've been to Wonder-Con and I've been to Blizz-Con," Kunis confessed to AP. "I love 'em. I think they're great. These are my people right here."
When Kunis was asked whether she was a comic book fan, she hesitantly admitted she was indeed a comic nerd. "Amongst other things, yes. I like World of Warcraft. I like Star Trek. I like comics, I like Top Cow Comics, I like Freshman. Yeah. I'm a bit of a nerd. But damn proud of it."
Max Payne is due to open in the US on October 17.
