Will Smith is looking down the barrel of being forty.
At least he can relax about what he's achieved so far in his 39 years.
He's the first Hollywood actor in history to have eight straight movies top the US$100 million dollars mark at the American box office.
Add worldwide ticket sales and his films have earned him the label of Hollywood's "best paid actor," netting him US$80 million dollars in 2008 alone, that's according to Forbes Magazine.
In fact conventional thinking might indicate that there is little left for superstar actor Will Smith to actually accomplish.
But the star claims that's not the case - in fact he says he's just getting started.
"It feels like a clean slate. I get to start over again and I get to start fresh. I feel like I've had all the little learning experiences and everything and made movies that were successful and weren't. I had a marriage that wasn't successful and now one that is. You know, I've worked through some things and now I feel like I can really focus and really concentrate and create the life that I've always dreamed about."
As for his recent run of box office success, Smith reckons it's all down to picking the right script:
"You know to me it starts really, really simply. When I read a script I am picturing myself in the movie theatre and from the first idea of the movie, I'm saying, 'If I'm sitting in a movie theatre? do I want to see that?' And I think a lot of times people make movies for other reasons than for the enjoyment of the people who are going to go see it."
He explains further: "For me it is always about, if I'm sitting in a movie theatre and the trailer comes up for an alcoholic superhero. Do I want to go see it? Like just already the idea of it is interesting. If the trailer comes on and it says, 'The Last Man On Earth.' Do you want to see that? And it's like that germ, and a lot of times if that germ isn't there it will be very difficult to create an interesting movie."
Speaking in Tokyo where he was promoting his recent blockbuster 'Hancock', in which he plays that alcoholic superhero, Will also said that acting is fast becoming his family business.
As well as his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, who featured in The Matrix movies, his son and daughter are now film stars too.
Jaden played Smith's on-screen son in The Pursuit of Happyness and appears in the up-coming sci-fi remake The Day The Earth Stood Still.
While Willow popped up in I Am Legend and starred in Kitty Kitteredge: An American Girl.
But their father sees no problem with that:
"It's what we do for a living, so I mean there is nothing in this world that I know more about than making movies. So, if my kids wanna do that it's perfect opportunity for me to be a successful parent. So for me it's, it's almost perfection.
Will Smith turns 40 on September 25th and Hancock opens in Japan on August 30th.
