Dozens of neighbours angry over a wall being constructed to separate an impoverished neighbourhood from a well-heeled one on the outskirts of Buenos Aires are protesting what they say is social discrimination.
San Isidro Mayor Gustavo Posse says he pushed for the construction of 1,600m long and 3m high wall to block an escape route for thieves returning to a neighbouring shantytown.
But the mayor of the bordering town, Osvaldo Amieiro, is calling on the courts to stop construction, saying it's "discriminatory".
The spat on Wednesday comes amid an increasingly heated debate in Argentina on how to confront a growing wave of crime.
Kilometres of walls being built around Rio de Janeiro's biggest slums have triggered a similar outcry.
