An Auckland businessman, previously locked up for contempt of court, has donned an Alice in Wonderland costume for his latest court hearing.

Vince Siemer was first jailed in 2007 for publishing defamatory material, and now the Court of Appeal is considering if he was fairly treated.

Mr Siemer, who appeared in a video link from Auckland to Wellington, demanded that two of the three Appeal Court judges be dismissed from his hearing due to an apparent bias.

The application was unsuccessful despite court appointed lawyer, Rodney Harrison, who argued that “Alice” had a point.

Siemer has spent time in jail for disobeying a court order that he should remove from his website defamatory material about Auckland receiver Michael Stiassnay.

“Everything I have done in the real world, before falling down the rabbit hole, has worked extremely well for me,” says Mr Siemer.

Mr Siemer claims judges have always been biased against him and he should have been originally given a jury trial.

If he does win today’s Court of Appeal hearing the likely outcome is that Mr Siemer will get a trial at the High Court in front of a jury.
