Dannervike brothel given the go ahead

3News NZ

Dannevirke is a small rural town south of Hawkes Bay. The town is so small that it just takes a minute or so to drive through it.

But now one woman is starting a business which she hopes will encourage more people to stop for a while and spend some money in the process.

Teresea McGregor has just been given the thumbs up to open Promiscuous Girlz - Dannevirke's first brothel.

Ms McGregor is confident that the brothel will get local and out of town men to pull out their chequebooks and says they are already knocking on her door.

One girl is already on her books and prices for her services start at around $125.

"We are actually going to do like a menu planner," Ms McGregor explains. "Like when you enter a restaurant and there will be different selections they can choose from. Whether it be the naughty nurse or the policeman, we have a four-poster bed for the kings room.

But not everyone is pleased about having a brothel in the region.

Dannevirke is a small, rural conservative town with a population of around 6,000. In a three day period, one in seven people have signed a petition saying that they did not want Promiscuous Girlz to open.

"They've got every legal right to do what they want to do, I accept that," Pastor Gavin Scott says. "But I think the whole moral tone of this is disgusting. It's not good for Dannevirke. It won't bring a blessing on this town."

Ms McGregor bought the Public Trust building in June for $250,000. Her original intentions were to convert it into accommodation and a café, however she says the demand was not there. She says some of her friends suggested an escort agency or brothel as an alternative.

Now that the brothel has been given the go-ahead, it is expected to open for business in August.

In response to the above comment by Lindy. You cannot make a judgement on the amount of people for or against the brothel since not all were able to have their say.It should be noted however that over 800 signatures against it were gathered in a very short amount of time, this is of some note since it is more normal to have weeks or even months to collect signatures.Illegal brothels in town is an interesting point. Should not Ms Mcgregor petition for those to be closed down since they are in competition to her business operation and she has had to pay for her business to be legal? Why is the law not stepping in here?

This article was the view of just a few residents of Dannevirke and by no means the majority. I, for one, would rather see one clean, well run brothel in town than all the illegal back street ones we have at the moment. Welcome to Dannevirke Ms Mcgregor and good luck with your new venture. I hope I will get as much nationwide, free advertising as you have should I ever have the opportunity to open my own bussiness.

My wife said to me this morning, this may sound strange but I want us to dress up and go to Dannevirke on the opening day of Promiscuous girls. Oh I replied, dress up as what? in our very best she answered.
It was then she conveyed to me the story about the brothel in Danevirke which screened on Campbell live.
We are of the view that there should be no holds barred when it comes to innovation in business and congratulate the owner of the old Public Trust building on her vision. We would like to support her on the opening day and seek the opening date please.
