According to a civil defence briefing just out, New Zealand is due for a major earthquake or eruption in the next 50 years.

The new Civil Defence minister has been told that a volcanic eruption is the most under-estimated threat and there is at least a 30 percent chance of one happening in Taranaki.

Civil Defence minister John Carter and director of Civil Defence John Hamilton spoke to Sunrise.
