The United States have beaten Iran 106-55 in the opening match of the U19 World Basketball Championships in Auckland today.
The favourites added seven points late in the first quarter through forward John Shurna, to lead 30-13 going into the second quarter.
The United States then had a 28 point lead by half time and by full time the victory margin was 51 points.
Next up for the United States are France on Friday.
In other action today Croatia beat Kazakhstan 104-74.
New Zealand's first match is against Argentina at 8.30 this evening.
