A war of words has erupted between David Tua and Shane Cameron ahead of their clash labelled 'The Fight of the Century' on October 3.

The pair fronted their first joint press conference in six months today, but any tension was replaced with trash talk between the two heavy hitters.

It is clear these two do not see eye-to-eye.

"Call yourself a professional?" said Cameron. "Man, how long you been outta the ring for? Doesn't make any difference. Like I said, I wasn't beaten up like you. Oh, I've seen that Lennox Lewis fight, you took a hiding."

It is 74 days until the fight, but the pair couldn't help firing a few early shots, Tua still comparing the mountain warrior to a mountain goat, offering it as an excuse for why he was late to the press conference.

"I got a text about 2:30am this morning," said Tua. "'If you wanna fight, come to the mountains of Gisborne,' and it's signed, 'The mountain goat'."

"I was up on that hill about one o'clock this morning," replied Cameron. "I seen you struggling, trying to get up to the goat, so you were nowhere to be seen mate. Ya know, you were huffin' and puffin', lookin' like you were gonna have a heart attack."

The fight will only take place if Cameron's broken hand makes a full recovery. His camp says he is on the road to recovery.

He probably got the points decision in the war of words, but whether he can do it in the ring is another matter.
