A spurned Wellington lover is giving away a diamond via a Twitter-led treasure hunt.

Anthony Gardiner, 29, purchased the "unlucky" $5000 ring for a woman who "wasn't as keen" as he was for marriage.

The white gold ring, with five 0.25 carat diamonds, will be hidden somewhere in the city, and clues to its location would be posted on http://twitter.com/donoogle_com.

Mr Gardiner says the ring would be suitable for, "somebody who's keen, who's found a cool chick and who wants to give them something they normally wouldn't be able to afford".
