New Zealand's Andrew Nicholson and Calico Joe have finished fourth in the Luhmuhlen three-day event in Germany overnight (NZT) after having one fence down in the show jumping arena.
The combination which improved from 10th to fifth position with a faultless cross-country display completed the four-star event on 45.70 points.
Germany's Michael Jung riding Leopin FST won with 36.80 points.
Nicholson took three horses into the event ahead of the London Olympics.
Shady Grey finished 21st and Mr Cruise Control, which was third after the dressage but disappointed across country, jumped clear to finish 26th.
Fellow Kiwi Megan Heath, riding St Daniel, at her first four-star event finished 14th on 77.80 points.
Mark Todd withdrew his entry Major Milestone before the cross-country test.
