Sydney's surfers were glowing as they welcomed in the new season with a night surf at Bondi Beach as part of the city's festival of summer.
While technically it is the beginning of summer, the 17 surfers had to brave gathering southerly storms.
At least there is somewhere to hang neon tubes on a wetsuit and not much else. The surfers were in the dark as to the whereabouts of any local sharks.
