A man accused of striking two girls with his car in south Auckland last week has been refused bail.

The man, who was granted interim name and image suppression, had sought bail when he appeared in Manukau District Court today but was instead remanded in custody, APNZ reported.

Following the crash on Thursday last week, he was charged with causing bodily harm to the girls, aged eight and 11, while driving with excess breath alcohol, and of driving while disqualified.

The girls were taken to hospital following the crash but were in a stable condition a few days later.

The accused man will reappear in court on Friday.

No bail for this guy. Yet the 17yo, one of two, accused of murdering the radio NZ journalist in Wellington is free on bail. If bail is supposed to reflect the potential danger to the public then it is clear that the courts are inconsistent. As if we didn't know that already.
