Victoria police have arrested a 41-year-old Coburg man in relation to the disappearance of Jill Meagher.

The man is currently in custody and police say he is assisting them with their inquiries.

No charges have been laid yet.

Jill Meagher has been missing since the early hours of Saturday morning, when she left a bar to walk home.

The last known CCTV pictures of the 29-year-old before she went missing show a man in a hoodie stopping to talk her.

Police said they wanted to talk to that man, but have not yet confirmed if the man arrested was the person  from the CCTV footage.

The footage shows the man had walked past a shop before changing directions and walking back towards Ms Meagher.

That was at about 1:45am, around the same time that she made a phone call to her brother.

Their mother, Edith McKeon, has described the distressing call.

“[Jill] just said ‘I'm worried’ and then she hang up, and he tried to call back and it went to voicemail,” she says.

There were other people on the street around the same time, and police have spoken to one man who says he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

They've also interviewed Ms Meagher’s husband and taken bags of evidence from their apartment.

Police say they believe she was abducted and this is now a homicide investigation.
