Noel Gallagher is convinced the adulation heaped on fellow British star Adele will be short-lived, insisting female singers have no "shelf life" in the music industry.

‘Someone Like You’ hitmaker Adele shot to international fame following her emotional performance at the Brit Awards last year, with her album 21 going on to top charts around the world and sell more than 17 million copies.

Her incredible rise has attracted praise from stars including Beyonce and rocker Dave Grohl - but former Oasis guitarist Gallagher is adamant Adele's success will quickly wilt, citing Welsh singer Duffy, who failed to capitalise on her early promise.

He tells Live magazine, "I feel sorry for girls in the music industry. They do have a very short shelf life. For instance, Duffy: who? Gone. She was massive. And I don't doubt for a second that the same thing will happen to Adele."

You have to ask sometimes whether the media seeks out these has-beens to make a comment - Noel who? Love the comment in the column says it all really - "former" - but then I do kinda agree with him about how long ladies are allowed to stay at the top - but that is more to do with the industry's marketing machinery - not the ladies themselves.
