Occupy Dunedin protestors have returned to the Octagon, with at least one tent stage back up in the upper Octagon.

Protesters packed up just before Christmas, but wouldn't say what their future plans were at that stage.

The Dunedin City Council recently roped off the upper Octagon for a month to allow the ground to recover, after claiming $3700 of damage was done during the previous occupation.

"The grass in the upper Octagon has not recovered as quickly or as evenly as anticipated," the council said last week.

"The walkways that had been left available across the grass now also need to be closed off."

Protesting is fine but it shouldnt impact on the rest of us. I'm not sure what it is they want to achieve but it has been lost in the boringness of the protest. Now they have just got people angry. I do think that the council should be sending an account to them for the damage they have caused to lawns etc or are the people of Dunedin supposed to pay for it?

What an awesome group of people, if I didn't have two kids to look after I would join them. Freedom to protest is a right and despite the law trying to deny these people the right, without freedom of speech there is only corruption. For those that say they are lazy lay abouts that need to get a job, I bet they are rich people (e.g. own their own house and car without a huge mortgage) who have no idea how impossible it is to get ahead these days even with a good education. Jobs aren't out there people, wake up!
