Kevin Rudd was criticised in a tongue and cheek news broadcast about his camel eradication

By Amanda Gillies

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has been called a number of things, cranky, super-nerd and workaholic.

But now a US TV show host has labelled him a serial killer for launching air strikes against camels in the outback.

The American anchors took offence to Rudd's plan to control a feral camel plague by aerial culling.

The news anchors compared the action to genocide, calling it “camelcide”.

The Australian government says more than a million camels roam unchecked through the outback, destroying fragile ecosystems and trampling over sacred indigenous sites.

The anchors motioned for a “save the camel” campaign and suggested Rudd step down.
