Police arrest wrong-way drunk

3News NZ

Police have arrested a man who stole a taxi and drove the wrong way down Auckland's Northwestern Motorway.

Just before 11pm last night a "grossly intoxicated" man hailed a Cheap Cabs taxi in West Auckland, reports the New Zealand Herald.

He threatened the driver and stole the vehicle, and "drove around erratically", leaving the taxi's driver on the side of the road.

Using a GPS police tracked the car to Kumeu, then chased it down the motorway, reaching speeds of up to 150km/h.

The driver crashed into a barrier at St Lukes, then turned around and drove the wrong way. Police attempted and failed to block the vehicle, which narrowly missed a number of others.

The alleged offender ditched the taxi near Western Springs, and was tracked by a police dog and arrested soon afterwards.

He will appear in Waitakere District Court today on eight driving-related charges, reports Auckland Now.

And do we have any judges with the balls to lock this loser up? He has ruined the car that the taxi driver uses for his income and endangered many people. Time for something serious to occur.

Unbelievable. Putting people's lives at risk for a joyride? What a complete plonker.
