British boyband One Direction has caused a busy day for Sydney’s paramedics, who treated at least 40 girls who collapsed or needed medical attention while waiting in large crowds to catch a glimpse of the band.
The pop group is in Australia for four shows, before they head to New Zealand for another three concerts, and say the experience is “absolutely incredible”.
Waiting fans were disappointed this morning when the group snuck out the back door of the airport – but it didn’t stop some fans following the band to their hotel and waiting outside the Channel 7 studios while the group was appearing on the breakfast show Sunrise.
Female fans were openly emotional about seeing the band, saying “Oh my God, oh my God” and “Thank you for coming to this planet, and thank you for being so beautiful.”
Some of the girls had to be pulled out of the crowd for medical treatment because they were unable to handle the excitement.
One Direction has been photographed everywhere they go. The boys have enjoyed a beer on Sydney Harbour, after eight weeks in America where they were too young to drink, and delighted fans by appearing shirtless out of their hotel window.
The band announced today they'll come back to Australia and New Zealand next year for a full tour, and will arrive in Auckland this week for their upcoming concert dates.
